Responsibilities include attending transplant and vascular access clinics, MDTs, and theatre sessions at St Georges and St Helier. Depending on experience, there will be opportunities to conduct independent clinics and simple access procedures under consultant supervision. The applicant will participate in the pre-operative and post-operative management of patients undergoing renal transplantation and renal surgery. Training in transplantation, surgery related to renal failure, and the clinical management of transplant recipients is expected. The individual will attend renal surgical lists at St George’s Hospital and St Helier hospital, with a total of six theatre lists per week, attending as per rota sharing with other colleagues. The individual will also share in the clinical work and on-call cover undertaken by the junior surgical staff of the unit. When assigned to clinical duties, the individual is encouraged to undertake the responsibilities of the team leader befitting a surgical trainee by leading twice daily ward rounds and partaking in a rota that assigns the individual as team leader or ward cover registrar.
Qualifications: This is a senior-level post suitable for a candidate who has a minimum of two years of general surgery experience, including a minimum of one year in the NHS UK. Renal transplant and vascular access experience will be an added benefit, but is not mandatory to apply for this post. The successful candidate will join a team of five other doctors working in a middle-grade rota, including CT and ST3+ level staff and an FY1 in the Department of Renal Transplantation.
