The post holder will work autonomously within the nurse‑led Endoscopy Pre‑Admission service in accordance with local policies, protocol and guidelines alongside the inter‑professional team. The aim of the pre‑admission service is to ensure elective patients are provided with high quality and accurate information about their endoscopy appointment including preparation and discharge requirements, leading to a safe and efficient endoscopy journey. The pre‑admission clinics will be carried out via the telephone at pre‑arranged appointment times or via face‑to‑face clinics.
Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical leadership to the Endoscopy Pre‑Admissions team ensuring patients receive accurate and timely information in a manner they understand.
- Provide a high standard of individualised care to patients, acting as a role model for the Trust's Endoscopy service to professionals within primary and secondary care.
- Assess the elective patients' fitness for endoscopic procedures.
- Identify patients' health and ill‑health, noting and organising specific action resulting from the assessment which may include requesting additional investigations.
- Liaise with GPs, nursing, anaesthetic, medical and surgical divisions and the endoscopy booking team, ensuring the patient is kept informed at each step.
- Support the Endoscopy Pre‑Admission team through training of junior members of the team and actively assist in the development of the policies and protocols relating to the department.
