Overview
The shoulder and elbow unit is currently run by 3 consultants and 2 senior physiotherapists working closely with the rest of the Orthopaedic department and other specialties across the hospital.
It is responsible for the care of both elective patients with shoulder and elbow pathology from the local population as well as tertiary referrals.
The Shoulder Unit has a national and international reputation for high quality and innovative work encompassing routine surgery, complex reconstruction and tertiary referral as well as being part of a Major Trauma Centre.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care to elective and tertiary shoulder and elbow patients across Tooting and SWLEOC sites, including outpatient, day case, and emergency inpatient work.
- Participate in theatre work including day case, trauma and elective operations under consultant supervision.
- Deliver regular medical student teaching as a Clinical Lecturer at St. George's University of London.
- Provide service provision and support departmental initiatives.
- Undertake research leading to peer‑reviewed publication.
Qualifications and Appointments
St George's Healthcare NHS Trust wishes to appoint a Post CCT Clinical Fellow with an interest in shoulder and elbow surgery for a 12‑month placement starting in February2028.
The position is attached to the shoulder firm and will involve work at St George's Hospital site in Tooting and elective work at the Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) in Epsom.
Opportunities will be provided to gain operative experience under the supervision of consultant surgeons.
Additional Information
St George's Healthcare Trauma and Orthopaedic Department provides both elective and emergency services, with a team of 25 consultants covering a full range of Orthopaedic conditions.
The department incorporates the largest pelvic and acetabular fracture unit in the South of England and includes tertiary referral units for hip and knee reconstruction, children’s Orthopaedics, and spinal surgery.
