The post will be part of the general paediatric ST1-3 on call rota and will provide cover for different areas of paediatric medicine, including inpatient wards, our ambulatory unit and our children’s emergency department. The post is a full shift pattern, including daytime and out of hours working, and night shifts. This post provides an excellent opportunity to gain ST1-3 level experience in paediatrics, including paediatric subspecialties, at a busy tertiary paediatric centre. It would suit someone looking to expand their paediatric experience in the UK prior to applying for training, including FY3 experience. The post offers experience with a wide range of complex and interesting patients and an excellent teaching programme. Only candidates with relevant experience of paediatrics in the UK will be shortlisted for interview.
About St. George's Hospital: St. George's Hospital is a large multi-specialty facility based in Southwest London, offering a wide range of adult, paediatric and neonatal services. It is co‑located with a medical school – St. George's, University of London. Children managed at SGH are either local, or regional tertiary patients. There has been a steady increase in the number of paediatric attendees in the Emergency department, in inpatient emergency admissions and outpatient referrals for local children. This reflects the increasing young population in SW Thames. Tertiary children's services at SGH include endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, neurology, oncology, allergy, paediatric surgery, PICU, trauma and respiratory medicine. The hospital is the second Trust in London with a helipad. The department has its own outpatient department, the Dragon Centre, a child development centre and 5 wards with 57 inpatient beds, a 10‑bed PICU/HDU and 36‑cot NICU. There are 35 paediatric consultants across all specialties and a fully staffed EWTD compliant middle grade and SHO rota, composed of grid trainees, regional trainees, fellows and F1 doctors.
