We are an 11,000 patient practice on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, seeking a GP Medical Secretary to join our hard-working, dedicated team. You must have an excellent attendance record, be a good timekeeper, able to work under pressure and enjoy working as part of a team. The successful candidate will be flexible, motivated, reliable, conscientious and committed to making a valuable contribution to the team. Previous experience of medical secretarial work is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive secretarial typing and administrative support to the Partnership
- Co-ordinate control of the dictation system
- Type referral letters to hospitals and GPs
- Log all referrals and update EMIS
- Arrange urgent hospital referrals
- Co-ordinate the Choose Book system; monitor, attach and query as required
- Deal with all patient enquiries regarding hospital referrals
- Miscellaneous typing work for GPs and other clinicians
- Book appointments
- Manage DOCMAN/EDTs
- Liaise with the Coroner
- Participate in team meetings to improve service levels
- Prioritise, organise and manage workload to promote quality and achieve objectives
- Participate in induction training for new starters where applicable
- Ensure mandatory training is completed
- Liaise with others to ensure efficient internal and external support
- Work safely and securely at all times in accordance with legislative requirements and Practice Policies and Procedures
- Record and deal with incidents in line with Practice protocols
- Carry out reasonable additional duties as requested from time to time
Qualifications & Experience
- Excellent attendance record and punctuality
- Strong communication skills at all levels
- Excellent telephone manner
- Ability to cope with change and conflicting demands
- Works well under pressure and to deadlines
- High level of attention to detail
- Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft packages
- Good management and prioritisation of workload
- Can work independently or as part of a team without direct supervision
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Previous medical secretarial experience
- Previous NHS experience
- Experience with EMIS and Docman
- NHS experience is preferred
