The predicted salary is between 13 - 16 £ per hour.
We are looking for a Prescription Clerk to join our dedicated and hard working Dispensary team for 17 hours a week. You will be joining a Dispensary Manager, three Dispensers and prescription clerk/delivery driver providing a prompt and efficient service to our patients. You must be a great team player and be adaptable to changing priorities. You will be encouraged to build on any existing knowledge and experience with regular training and support. You will be entitled to 5 weeks annual leave increasing to 6 weeks after 2 years service. A uniform and free parking is also included.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way.
- Assist in the receiving and giving of prescriptions and assist with stock control, ordering and restocking of the dispensary.
- There may also be a need to deliver medications to patients' homes so a driving license and access to a vehicle is needed.
Job responsibilities
- Answering the telephone promptly and dealing with prescription requests.
- Issuing prepared prescriptions.
- Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements.
- Processing prescription requests.
- Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage.
- Ensuring that drugs are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions.
- Ensuring that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the temperature control record/logbook.
- Cleaning work surfaces and shelving on a regular basis and ensuring that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order.
- Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions.
- Undertaking other reasonable duties within the framework of the post as directed by the Dispensary Manager.
- Keeping records of prescriptions sent to community pharmacies.
- Checking for email prescription requests.
- Dispensing of returned medications under the supervision of the Dispensers.
- To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient or their representative.
- To receive monies on behalf of the Practice and keep a record of all the financial transactions.
- To support the Dispensers in dealing with all aspects of administration including sending invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the Practice Manager according to Practice policy.
- To provide an efficient and caring home delivery service to patients where requested.
- To maintain full and accurate computerised records for all dispensing transactions.
Person Specification
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands on time, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Able to apply tact and sensitivity to establish trust and confidence.
- Good communication skills, able to communicate effectively across different levels.
Experience
- Experience of delivering customer service preferably in an NHS environment or similar community health provider position.
- Administrative Experience.
- Experience of medicines management.
- Experience of implementing service improvements.
- Use of patient records systems.
Qualifications
- GCSE in English and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent experience.
- Evidence of continued learning/personal development in relevant field.
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services.
