St George's Hill Lawn Tennis Club is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Grounds Person to join our Grounds Team. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and presenting the Club's grounds and playing surfaces to the highest possible standards, ensuring an exceptional environment for members and visitors throughout the year. Working closely with the Head Grounds Person and wider maintenance team, the Senior Grounds Person will assist in the day-to-day management, maintenance, and improvement of the Club's grounds, landscaped areas, and sports facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain all playing surfaces, grounds, landscaped areas, and surrounding facilities to a consistently high standard.
  • Carry out routine turf maintenance operations including mowing, aeration, scarification, fertiliser applications, irrigation, and seasonal renovation work.
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of courts and surrounding areas for tournaments, events, and daily member use.
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of grounds maintenance machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Monitor turf health and identify potential issues relating to pests, diseases, weeds, drainage, or wear.
  • Undertake landscaping, planting, pruning, hedge cutting, and general grounds maintenance duties.
  • Support the implementation of health and safety procedures across all grounds operations.
  • Assist with winter maintenance programmes and estate upkeep.
  • Contribute to the planning and organisation of daily tasks and seasonal maintenance schedules.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior members of the grounds team when required.
  • Ensure all machinery, tools, and work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.

Essential Requirements

  • NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf, Horticulture, Greenkeeping, or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 3 years' greenkeeping or grounds maintenance experience.
  • Sound knowledge of sports turf maintenance practices and machinery operation.
  • A proactive and positive approach to work with strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • PA1, PA2 and PA6 pesticide application certificates.
  • Chainsaw certification (CS30, CS31 and CS32).
  • Experience maintaining tennis courts and sports surfaces.
  • Irrigation system maintenance experience.
  • First Aid qualification.
