St Gemma’s Hospice is seeking to appoint a Ward Secretary to join our friendly and supportive team. This role is based in our In-Patient Unit, working Wednesdays to Fridays, 8am – 4pm, and occasional weekend cover. Weekend work is 4 hours per day, at an enhanced rate, approximately one weekend in six on an agreed rota.
This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of ward activity, providing high-quality administrative support on one of our two In-Patient wards. You will be a welcoming first point of contact for patients and visitors, manage telephone enquiries, and carry out a range of essential administrative tasks, including registering referrals and updating patient records for admissions, deaths, and discharges.
The role will suit a proactive and organised individual with administrative experience who is keen to play an active part in the work of the Hospice, directly supporting our patients, carers and families.
The successful candidate will be:
- Highly organised and efficient, with keen attention to detail
- A strong team player with excellent warm and effective interpersonal skills
- Flexible and used to adapting to changing priorities and multi-tasking
- Experienced in communicating confidently with a variety of people, both in person and by telephone
- Confident in using IT and enthusiastic about learning new systems
