About the Role
St Ewe Free Range Eggs Limited is a family run business which has seen significant growth and maintains an ambitious growth strategy. This role will be a 2 to 3 day a week 12 month maternity cover for the current Finance Director. This role will provide strategic leadership and be responsible for driving financial performance, strengthening governance and risk frameworks, enhancing financial systems, and ensuring robust financial control and compliance. You will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team and the Board to develop and implement business strategies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Strategic Financial Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of the organisation’s financial strategy aligned to corporate objectives.
- Act as a strategic advisor to the Board and Executive Team on financial planning, investment decisions, and commercial performance.
- Drive budgeting, forecasting and long‑term financial planning processes across the organisation.
- Provide clear insight and analysis on financial performance, identifying opportunities for growth, cost optimisation, and margin improvement.
- Support business cases for capital investment, acquisitions, or major strategic initiatives.
- Ensure strong cashflow management and working capital optimisation.
- Driving Commercial Performance
- Champion Revenue Growth Management across the organisation, driving excellence across the five key levers: pricing, promotion, mix, trade terms, and price architecture.
- Partner with sales, marketing, and supply chain teams to drive cost efficiency, margin improvement, and top‑line growth.
- Lead the analysis of promotions and promotional spend effectiveness, ensuring the business understands the ROI of the investment and market share impact.
- Build a data bank of measurement and evaluation insights to inform future promotional planning, enabling the business to move from reactive to predictive trade spend management.
- Operational Efficiency & Performance Management
- Drive operational efficiency by partnering closely with operations to identify inefficiencies, streamline processes, and optimise costs and margins across the business.
- Build and enhance dashboards, reporting tools, and analytics to give real‑time visibility of key financial and commercial metrics.
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting, management accounts, and statutory accounts.
- Manage external audit process and relationships with auditors, tax advisors, banks, and other financial stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Monitor financial KPIs and ensure corrective action is taken where required.
- Governance & Compliance
- Strengthen financial governance frameworks across the organisation.
- Ensure appropriate financial policies, procedures are in place and adhered to.
- Support Board and Committee reporting, providing clear and transparent financial insight.
- Lead the development and oversight of the organisation’s financial risk management framework.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial, operational, and strategic risks.
- Oversee treasury management, funding arrangements, and covenant compliance.
- Systems & Process Improvement
- Review and enhance finance systems, reporting tools, and data integrity.
- Lead system improvement initiatives (ERP optimisation, automation, BI reporting).
- Drive process efficiencies within the finance function to support scalability.
- Improve management information and dashboard reporting for operational leaders.
- Embed a culture of continuous improvement within the finance team.
- Lead and develop a high‑performing finance team.
- Provide mentoring and support to senior finance managers.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance.
- Ensure appropriate succession planning and capability development within the function.

Experience
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Proven experience operating at Finance Director or senior finance leadership level in a £100m+ turnover organisation.
