Your role
The Technical Operator is responsible for running the egg pasteurisation line to meet planned production outputs while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, quality, and efficiency. This role involves operating and monitoring machinery, carrying out basic maintenance tasks, and ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene standards. The Technical Operator plays a key role in maximising uptime, troubleshooting technical issues, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
What does success look like?
- Production & Efficiency
- Operate the egg pasteurisation equipment efficiently to meet daily production targets and complete end of shift cleaning (Both manual & CIP) to a high care standard.
- Monitor and adjust machine settings to maintain optimal performance and product quality.
- Work closely with the production and engineering teams to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency.
- Complete production records and ensure accurate reporting of machine performance and output.
- Maintenance & Technical Support
- Conduct routine machine checks and basic maintenance to ensure equipment remains in good working condition.
- Identify and report faults or breakdowns promptly to the maintenance team.
- Support planned preventive maintenance (PPM) activities to reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns.
- Assist in troubleshooting technical issues to keep the line running effectively.
- Hygiene, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to hygiene and cleanliness standards in line with food safety regulations (e.g., BRC, HACCP, GMP CIP).
- Follow all health and safety guidelines, including correct use of PPE and adherence to safe working practices.
- Participate in audits and inspections to maintain compliance with St Ewe and regulatory requirements.
- Accurately complete hygiene and cleaning records as required.
- Continuous Improvement & Lean Practices
- Identify and suggest improvements to enhance line performance, reduce waste, and improve efficiency.
- Engage in Lean Manufacturing activities such as 5S, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work with the Process Engineer and production teams to implement process optimisations.
- Teamwork & Training
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth production flow and effective handovers between shifts.
- Support new team members by sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Participate in ongoing training and upskilling initiatives to enhance technical competence.
Skills required
- Strong understanding of food safety standards, including HACCP and GMP.
- Hands-on experience with automated processing equipment, ideally in food processing.
- Basic technical aptitude with the ability to carry out minor adjustments and routine maintenance.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to react quickly to technical issues.
- Good attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Cleaning instruction cards (CIC’s).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Relevant experience
Previous experience as a Technical Operator, Machine Operator, or similar role in a food manufacturing environment or with automated processing equipment in a similar controlled industry. You must not keep poultry at home due to bio-security.
