Your Role
The Head of Technical is responsible for managing the organisation's food safety, quality, legality, and regulatory compliance agenda. This role ensures that all food products meet internal standards, customer requirements, and applicable national regulations, while supporting innovation, operational excellence, and brand protection. You will be accountable for all Technical and QA activities within the business. Working as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will support us in the key decisions in this fast-moving business that is very innovative in this industry, whilst maintaining the St Ewe Eggs family culture.
What does success look like?
- Developing overall technical strategy, tactics, policy & plans
- Responsible for the company's quality management system to ensure compliance with BRC and industry standards and customer-specific codes of practice
- Leadership of the business HACCP programme
- Externally representing the business on all technical and food-safety matters
- Coordinate all company quality and laboratory activities
- Responsible for the audit programme of the business
- Effective use of data to drive root-cause analysis and robust decision-making
- Working closely with the Poultry Team to drive producer performance and egg quality
- Develop and embed a culture of food safety and good manufacturing practices
- Support the NPD and Innovation agenda where required
- To ensure an environment of team engagement, training and development is progressed and the St Ewe Eggs culture is actively supported across the business.
- Working cross-functionally across the business to ensure smooth relationships and responding to the needs of the business.
- To continually motivate all the team and build capability and morale, ensuring day to day positive management with staff reviews and developing the team to their potential.
Skills and experience required
- A real foodie and looking for a rewarding career challenge in an exciting growing family business
- Educated to degree level in food science, technology or processing
- Passionate about developing their teams, empowering their people to achieve and flourish
- Proven ability to set targets, manage KPIs and deliver results, supported by a positive track record in outcomes focused business planning, forecasting and managing risk.
- We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual with a solid technical / QA track record within food manufacturing. High care experience would be advantageous.
- Experience of food/drink pasteurisation technology is desirable
- You will also be Food Safety and HACCP Level 3 or 4 qualified
- Understanding of laboratory testing and interpretation of results
- Experience of implementing digital audit and technical systems
- Working knowledge of retail codes of practice and BRC Global Standard for Food Safety
- Excellent communication, organisational and administrative skills
- Project and change leadership experience
- High attention to detail with a pragmatic, solutions-focussed approach
