Less HR from a distance. More HR where it actually happens. Are you an experienced HR Advisor looking for your next challenge? Perhaps you're already working at a senior level and looking for greater responsibility. Or maybe you're an established HR professional who enjoys partnering with managers, solving people challenges and making a genuine difference. At St Elizabeth's, we're growing and evolving, and we're looking for the right person to join our People Team. We're more interested in what you can bring than the job title you currently hold.

Why this role is different: This isn't a hybrid role – you'll be based with us on-site in Much Hadham, working alongside the managers and teams you support. You'll build relationships, understand the challenges our services face and have those everyday conversations that can prevent small issues becoming bigger problems. You'll be part of a supportive People Team, with the opportunity to influence how we work and contribute to the future development of our organisation.

About St Elizabeth's: Set within 60 acres of beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, St Elizabeth's is a specialist charity supporting children, young people and adults with epilepsy and other complex needs. With approximately 700 colleagues across education, residential care, supported living and day opportunities, we offer a genuinely varied and rewarding environment. Our values are at the heart of everything we do: Aspirational | Collaborative | Joyful | Compassionate.

What you'll be doing: Working closely with our Head of People Relations and Policy and wider People Team, you'll provide professional, practical HR advice and support across the organisation. Depending on your experience, you'll be involved in:

  • Advising managers on employee relations matters, including absence, disciplinary, grievance, capability and performance.
  • Supporting or leading complex ER cases, investigations and formal processes.
  • Coaching and developing managers to confidently manage their teams.
  • Supporting organisational change, workforce planning and wider People initiatives.
  • Contributing to HR policies, processes, manager training and continuous improvement.
  • Building strong relationships with managers and senior leaders.
  • Using HR data and workforce insights to identify opportunities for improvement.

For candidates bringing more senior experience, there will be opportunities to take greater ownership of complex matters, influence organisational decisions and contribute to strategic People initiatives.

About you: We're looking for someone who enjoys the people side of HR, can build trust and knows how to balance employment legislation with practical, sensible solutions. You'll ideally bring:

  • Experience in an HR advisory, senior advisory or business partnering role.
  • Good knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience supporting or managing employee relations matters.
  • Confidence advising, coaching and challenging managers.
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • A CIPD qualification or equivalent HR experience appropriate to your level.
  • Experience within education, health, social care or another regulated environment would be advantageous, but isn't essential.

You don't need to tick every box. We're interested in your experience, your approach and what you could bring to our team.

Why join us? We're not going to pretend HR here will always be easy. But you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine difference, support colleagues who do incredible work and help shape how our People function develops. You'll also enjoy:

  • From 25 days' annual leave plus Bank Holidays, increasing with service.
  • Contributory pension with up to 6% employer contribution.
  • Life Assurance and Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Blue Light Card and discounted gym membership.
  • Free on-site parking and subsidised staff transport.
  • Affordable on-site accommodation options.
  • Fully funded Enhanced DBS.
  • £1,000 Recommend a Friend Scheme for eligible roles.
  • Ongoing professional development and career progression opportunities.

Ready for something different? Whether you're an experienced HR Advisor ready for your next step or already operating at a more senior level, we'd love to hear from you. We're looking for the right person, not simply the right job title. The scope of the role and salary will reflect the experience and capabilities of the successful candidate. Apply today by completing our online application form and uploading your CV. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
