Part-time Food Science Technician (Required for September 2026)

Hours: Approximately 15 hours per week (Some flexibility with start and finish times) (Term-Time Only)

Are you organised, practical, and passionate about supporting young people in a creative learning environment? St Edmunds College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Food Science Technician to support the smooth running of our Food Science department. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in preparing engaging practical lessons, maintaining a safe and welcoming food room environment, and supporting pupils throughout their learning experience.

Working closely with the Food Science Teacher, you will:

  • Prepare ingredients, materials and equipment for practical lessons
  • Assist with demonstrations, displays and College events
  • Monitor stock levels and place orders when required
  • Maintain clean, hygienic and organised food preparation areas
  • Support pupils during practical activities
  • Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed
  • Help maintain equipment and resources in excellent condition
  • Assist with inventories, audits and record keeping
  • Contribute to Food Science co-curricular activities

We Are Looking for Someone Who:

  • Is highly organised and proactive
  • Takes pride in maintaining a clean and efficient workspace

  • Has good practical food preparation skills
  • Understands the importance of health, safety and hygiene standards

Whilst not in a teaching role, as a Food Science Technician you will be working on a regular basis in a school in a role which gives opportunity for contact with children. As such, you will be in regulated activity and an enhanced DBS check (which includes children's barred list information) will be required in advance of appointment. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone's responsibility. As with all College staff members, you will therefore be responsible for providing a safe environment in which children can learn.
