The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner with the ability to think creatively about PE. They will have the passion and enthusiasm to contribute to the planning and delivery of a forward-thinking and inclusive curriculum. They will have the confidence to teach a broad range of activities across the age range from Year 7 to Year 13. They will be an excellent team player, working effectively with colleagues within the department and across the College.
The successful candidate will support the Head of Sport and Exercise Science in delivering on his vision for the department, consistently demonstrating an infectious enthusiasm and energy for the subject and its teaching. The successful applicant would be expected to have the requisite subject knowledge to deliver GCSE PE to a high standard. They will be expected to teach at least one aspect of the OCR A Level course and support students in achieving the highest possible outcomes. Many of our students go on to study Sport & Exercise Science at some of the top UK universities, and the ability to mentor these students beyond the curriculum will be a key part of the role.
The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post. As this role involves 'regulated activity' with children, the successful applicant will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure application. Employment will be conditional upon the College being satisfied with the result of the Enhanced DBS check and the outcome of all other checks.
Applicants should be aware that it is unlawful for the College to employ anyone to work with children if they are barred from doing so, and it is a criminal offence for a person to apply to work with children if they are barred from doing so. This role is also exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the College is therefore permitted to ask shortlisted applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
