- They are appointed by the Bishop to represent his education policy in his schools.
- They preserve and develop the Catholic ethos of the school.
What do Foundation Governors do?
- Ensure the Catholic ethos is upheld.
- Hold the Heads to account.
- Oversee the curriculum.
- Drive educational outcomes.
- Provide assurance to the Trust Board.
The St Cuthbert's Roman Catholic Academy Trust is recruiting Foundation Governors for the following academies to join their LGBs:
- St Anthony's Primary, Hull
- Endsleigh Holy Child Primary, Hull
- St George's Primary, Scarborough
- St John of Beverley Primary
- St Mary's Market Weighton Primary
- St Mary & St Joseph Primary, Pocklington
- St Mary Queen of Martyrs Primary, Hull
- Our Lady & St Peter Primary, Bridlington
- St Peter's Primary, Scarborough
- St Thomas More Primary, Hull
- St Richard's Primary, Hull
- St Vincent's Primary, Hull
In order to be eligible to serve as a Foundation Governor, applicants must be a practising Catholic and over 18 years of age. Interested individuals would need to complete an application form, and provide a reference from their local parish priest and submit these to the Diocese for consideration by the Bishop who makes the appointments.
The average Governor role will take up about 2 hours per month. However, this can vary depending on the academy’s calendar or by events, such as an Ofsted inspection. This commitment includes the minimum requirement of attending up to three meetings of the LGB in each academic year. Meetings are usually held in the local school. Governors serve for a four-year term of office.
