Attendance Officer at St Clements High School will work with key school staff to promote excellent attendance, reduce absence levels, and support children and families.

Key Details

  • Start Date: September 2026
  • Hours: 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time plus one week)
  • Salary: £15.06–£16.07 per hour (pro‑rated)

Purpose of the Job

  • Form strong relationships with parents and carers

Responsibilities (not exhaustive)

  • Closely monitor daily student attendance in liaison with Pastoral Managers and Tutor Team to ensure accurate records and timely action on absences
  • Work closely with parents, carers and students to improve attendance, communicating by telephone, letter and face‑to‑face meetings, and coordinate parental support and training when appropriate
  • Make first‑day absence phone calls for all absent students
  • Update daily attendance data in accordance with statutory guidance, ensuring correct attendance codes are entered in class registers and on SIMS
  • Ensure all A.M. and P.M. registers are completed and that no missing marks or unexplained absences remain
  • Monitor the attendance of vulnerable groups of students and liaise with staff, the SEN department, LAC and safeguarding as appropriate
  • Manage the Attendance line telephone calls and messages on a daily basis
  • Identify students for weekly attendance meetings with the Deputy Headteacher, participate in meetings and send follow‑up letters home; produce reports and monitor progress
  • Collate information on students experiencing attendance difficulties to inform school, external agencies and parents/carers
  • Produce detailed analytical attendance reports from the School Management Information System for stakeholders such as the Trust, Local Governing Body and government agencies
  • Attend regular internal attendance meetings with key staff to discuss concerns and formulate actions
  • Carry out home visits when required
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion in all matters
  • Keep up to date with SIMS training
  • Carry out administrative duties as required by the Headteacher, including but not limited to school events, reception cover and examination timetable
  • Perform duties in line with school policies to promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young and vulnerable people
