Main duties of the job
As Shop Manager, you\’ll lead by example, to deliver the highest level of service. You\’ll be our ambassador on the high street, raising vital funds.
Our successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating all activities of the shop. This requires commitment to high standards of customer service, donor care and volunteer support.

Job responsibilities
This will be a varied and challenging role that requires excellent leadership and communication skills, along with a hands-on management approach and the ability to demonstrate strong visual merchandising skills.
This post is offered on a full-time basis, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Saturday, flexible each week.
Person SpecificationAttitude and Behaviours
- Stamina and enthusiasm for hands-on physical work
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to motivate and empathise with hospice staff and volunteers
- Flexibility and willingness to work in all other locations and extra hours as and when required i.e. staff shortages/sickness/holiday cover
- Willingness and desire to work in accordance with hospice values
Experience
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate both in person and by telephone, effectively at all levels
- Excellent organisational skills
- Experience of working in a customer care environment
- Supervisory skills
- Creativity (e.g. window display)
- Some knowledge of St Catherine\’s Hospice work in the community, including its charity shops
- Awareness of statutory regulations including H&S legislation, trading standards, hygiene and retail premises
- Second-hand retail sector e.g. antiques
- Current fashion trends
Qualifications
- General good level of literacy and numeracy with grade C or above at GCSE
- Retail related qualification e.g. NVQ
- Customer service related qualification e.g. NVQ
