As a Careers Officer, you will:

  • Deliver impartial careers guidance through one-to-one and group sessions.
  • Support students with progression routes including Higher Education, apprenticeships, employment and training opportunities.
  • Work closely with vulnerable and priority student groups to ensure equitable progression outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development of an outstanding careers programme aligned to the Gatsby Benchmarks.
  • Support careers events, employer engagement activities, school liaison and progression initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate student records and destination tracking data.
  • Provide guidance and support during key college events including enrolment, parents’ evenings, open events and results days.

Trainee Careers Officer (Grade F) – For candidates with substantial experience supporting young people in a post‑16 educational, pastoral, guidance or progression setting who are willing to work towards and successfully complete a Level 6 Qualification in Careers Guidance. This is not an entry‑level role. Applicants for the trainee pathway should have proven experience of working directly with young people, providing guidance, support and progression advice within an educational environment. You will be passionate about supporting young people to achieve their aspirations and committed to delivering outstanding careers guidance.

Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with young people in a post‑16 educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of progression routes including Higher Education, apprenticeships and employment pathways.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • For the Grade G role: a Level 6 Qualification in Careers Guidance (or equivalent).
  • For the Grade F role: a willingness to undertake and complete a Level 6 Qualification in Careers Guidance.
