Design & Technology Technician
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to become a team member in a long established and successful design and technology department, starting September 2026. Applications will be reviewed on receipt and the vacancy may close earlier than advertised, so early applications are encouraged.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Prepare resources for lessons and maintain equipment and stock.
- Oversee students undertaking practical tasks and ensure a safe working environment.
- Support teaching across KS3, KS4 and KS5 design and technology curricula.
- Assist in the use of the workshops, including hand tools, lathes, milling machines, brazing hearths, sand casting equipment, MIG welding, and the forge.
- Utilise the IT facilities – computer suites with CAD/CAM, laser cutter, CNC router, 3D printer and vinyl cutters – to aid instruction.
- Provide on‑the‑job training and support, including accredited health and safety training.
Working Hours & Conditions
Daily pattern 08:00 – 16:00 with a 50‑minute unpaid lunch break. Employment covers 39 term‑time weeks plus one additional week during school holidays. All holidays must be taken during school breaks and there is no entitlement to leave during term time.
Compensation
Annual salary is calculated using a Surrey Pay formula, including statutory annual leave allowances, and paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
