Role Summary

To manage students in the Oscar Romero Centre to plan and prepare for outdoor activities which enhance their engagement with learning, promote their enjoyment of College and contribute to securing appropriate outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with identified students, including those with SEND, SEMH, and EAL, individually and in small groups to ensure engagement with learning.
  • Work to achieve the inclusion of all students.

  • Outdoor First Aid
  • Other outdoor or adventurous activities
  • Support teachers delivering Outdoor Education to larger groups.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and record student engagement and progress in specific outdoor learning activities.
  • Act as a mentor for individual students, evaluating and recording their progress towards specific goals.
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations whilst promoting self-esteem and encouraging students to act independently.
  • Prepare, create, and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment.
  • Take responsibility for the care, preparation, maintenance, and use of relevant equipment.
  • Promote positive values, attitudes, and good student behaviour.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support as required.
  • Responsible for the supervision of students outside lesson times.
  • Supervise internally excluded students.
  • Provide first aid and attend appropriate training as necessary.
  • Conduct investigations into breaches of the Radiate Behaviour Policy by students, collating statements, making recommendations, as required.
  • Additional Duties & Policies
  • Accurately record and provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers and other key staff on students' achievement, progress, barriers, and other relevant issues or concerns.
  • Promote good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with the established policies of the College and encouraging students to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
  • Prepare, maintain, and use specialist resources required to meet the objective of the learning activity and assist students in their use.
  • Liaise regularly and effectively with staff in the Oscar Romero Centre and key staff in the mainstream school, for example the SENDCO, pastoral and safeguarding staff, etc.
  • Contribute to reports, record keeping, information and data, student profiles and reviews of EHCPs.
  • As part of the wider duties and responsibilities the postholder must actively promote, support and be vigilant and knowledgeable about Keeping Children Safe in Education, including compulsory training and fully comply with College and Trust policies and procedures relating to child protection, safeguarding, health, safety, and information security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate senior person.
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings including planning meetings, as required, and participate in training and other learning activities and performance management, supervision and development, as required.
  • Assist with the supervision of students out of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtime, break time, as required.
  • To participate in and assist teaching staff on any educational visits, trips or out of school activities and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of the teacher in charge.
