Role Overview
St Austell Golf Club is seeking an experienced, hands-on Head Greenkeeper / Course Manager to lead all aspects of course maintenance and development. Working in line with a Management Plan set by the Executive Committee, the role includes supporting the operation of the Toptracer Driving Range through ball collection and routine maintenance. The post holder will ensure the course is presented to the highest possible standard while promoting sustainability, safety, and effective management of people, machinery, and resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Course Management
- Deliver daily, weekly, and annual maintenance programmes.
- Maintain greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and rough to agreed standards.
- Direct daily course setup, including hole locations and tee markers.
- Plan and implement course improvement and renovation projects.
- Oversee greenkeeping support for the Toptracer Driving Range.
- Lead, motivate, train, and develop the greenkeeping team.
- Manage rotas, recruitment, induction, and performance reviews.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures and PPE use.
- Prepare and manage operational and capital budgets.
- Oversee purchasing of materials, chemicals, and machinery.
- Ensure compliance with H&S legislation, including COSHH and risk assessments.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, chemicals, and training.
- Ensure safe operation and maintenance of all machinery.
- Liaise with Club Manager, Professional Shop, and Competitions Secretary.
- Keep members informed of course conditions and significant works.
Duties may be amended in line with the operational needs of the Club.
Person Specification
- Senior greenkeeping experience (Head or Deputy).
- Level 3 NVQ/Diploma in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent).
- PA1, PA2, PA6 certificates.
- Strong leadership with a hands-on approach.
- Flexibility for early mornings, weekends, and physically demanding outdoor work.
- Level 4 / HND in Turf Management.
- Chainsaw certification.
- Construction or renovation experience.
