We are looking for enthusiastic and caring individuals to join our Westgarth respite service, which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Shifts include days, nights and sleep‑overs.
Salary: Starting salary: £12.21 per hour. After successful completion of probation, the rate rises to £12.41 per hour, and after a further 12 months in post it increases to £12.60 per hour.
Location: Westgarth, Halifax.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain person‑centred support plans that reflect each client's views, aspirations and wishes.
- Support clients to live as independently as possible, accompanying them to social visits and events, arranging activities and outings, promoting choice and developing skills.
- Communicate openly and transparently with clients and team members, acting with integrity and keeping the client’s best interest in mind.
- Provide personal care that respects clients’ dignity and choices, including assistance with washing and toileting where required.
- Ensure all care protects clients from abuse and exploitation, maintains dignity and encourages positive risk‑taking.
- Participate in quality inspection processes and cooperate with on‑site inspectors.
- Work in compliance with health and safety requirements: manual handling, food hygiene, fire safety, infection control and risk assessment procedures.
- Perform household duties such as cooking, cleaning, laundry and other domestic tasks as needed.
- Meet the physical demands of the role: climbing stairs, working with hoists, pushing wheelchairs, moving people, night work; adjustments considered in line with the Equality Act where disability prevents meeting these criteria.
- Use basic computer packages (Word, Outlook, internet) and undertake relevant care training and qualifications if required.
- Work cooperatively with team members and liaise effectively with carers, families, inspectors and other stakeholders.
