Position: Support Worker – South Tyneside. Starting salary of £12.21 per hour, rising to £12.41 after successful completion of probation and to £12.60 after a further 12 months in post. Shift pattern includes days, weekends and sleep‑ins. Flexibility is essential. The services operate 24/7 supporting individuals in their homes and communities. We seek caring, enthusiastic Support Workers to help clients with everyday activities such as shopping, dining out, attending local events, baking, gardening, crafts, and public transport.
The Role
- Person‑Centred – Prepare, review and amend client‑centred support plans reflecting each client’s views, aspirations and beliefs.
- Respectful – Support clients to live as independently as possible, accompany them to social visits, provide choices, arrange activities and outings, and develop skills and knowledge.
- Open – Communicate openly with clients and team members, act with integrity, and support quality inspection processes.
- Understanding – Provide personal care that respects client choices and dignity, including washing, bathing, toileting and continence support.
- Dedicated – Keep accurate records, adhere to Health and Safety requirements (manual handling, food hygiene, fire safety, infection control, risk assessment), and record daily notes in client‑involved ways.

The Candidate
- Provide appropriate level of care and support to clients, including personal care, in line with their care plan.
- Maintain accurate written and numerical records.
- Perform a wide range of personal care and domestic duties as required.
- Carry out physical requirements of the role (e.g., climbing stairs, using hoists, pushing wheelchairs, moving people, night work). Adjustments will be considered under the Equality Act.
- Use computer packages (Word, Outlook, Internet) and undertake relevant training or qualifications in care if required.
- Work cooperatively as part of a team.
- Communicate effectively with carers, families, inspectors and other stakeholders.
- Driving licence is desirable.

- Experience – Previous experience working in care (employment or as a carer at home) – desirable.
- Qualifications – Essential – Care Certificate or required to undertake Care Certificate. Desirable – Current driver’s licence.
