Our Westgarth respite service assists clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We require enthusiastic and caring individuals and offer a variety of shifts, including days, nights, and sleep‑overs. As a Support Worker you will provide high‑quality care to enable clients to live their best life. The service is housed in a homely environment in Halifax (HX5), close to public transport. We support nearly 2,000 vulnerable adults through specialist residential, supported living and outreach services.

Main Duties

  • Prepare person‑centred support plans with clients that reflect their views and aspirations.
  • Support clients to fulfil their aspirations and live independently, including accompanying them to social visits, events and activities.
  • Communicate openly and transparently with clients and team members, acting with integrity.
  • Provide personal care respecting client choices and dignity, including washing and toileting.
  • Keep accurate records, including daily notes, with full client involvement.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure all support and care protect clients from abuse and exploitation while honouring dignity.
  • Adapt to the unique needs of each client; no two days are the same.
  • Assist with quality inspection processes and related information requests.
  • Work in accordance with Health and Safety requirements (Manual Handling, Food Hygiene, Fire Safety, infection control, risk assessment).
  • Carry out household duties: cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc., as required.
  • Provide appropriate personal care as outlined in the care plan.
  • Maintain accurate written and numerical records.
  • Carry out physical tasks such as climbing stairs, using hoists, moving people and night work; adjustments considered under the Equality Act.
  • Use and learn computer packages (Word, Outlook, Internet) and undergo relevant care qualification training if required.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member.
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with carers, families, inspectors and other stakeholders.

Person Specification

  • Experience: Previous experience working in care (employment or as a home carer).
  • Qualifications: Essential – Care Certificate or willingness to undertake a Care Certificate. Desirable – Valid driver’s licence.
