We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Deputy Manager to join our residential services in Dewsbury, supporting adults with mental health needs. You will be leading, developing, and supporting people with mental health to live a healthy and happy life. You will have an eye for detail and support each team to deliver quality care to the people we support.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Support the Service Manager in the day-to-day running of two residential homes in Dewsbury, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Provide strong, compassionate leadership to a team of support workers, fostering a positive and resilient team culture.
  • Oversee the delivery of person-centred support for clients with complex mental health conditions, substance misuse histories, and challenging behaviours.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and support planning, ensuring safety, dignity, and respect are at the forefront of care.
  • Liaise and build strong partnerships with external agencies and stakeholders, including adult social care, health professionals and families.
  • Support with recruitment, staff development, supervisions, and performance management, helping build a competent and confident workforce.
  • Monitor service delivery and quality, including participating in audits, compliance checks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of safeguarding and accountability, ensuring that concerns are appropriately identified, reported, and acted upon.
  • Contribute to rota planning and ensure adequate staffing levels, sometimes providing hands-on support when required.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

We are seeking a committed, resilient, and proactive Deputy Manager to support the operational and strategic leadership of two CQC registered services: two residential homes for adults with mental health. You will work alongside the Service Manager to ensure both services deliver high-quality, person-centred care, maintain strong CQC compliance, and uphold a culture where the people we support are empowered to live their best lives.

Service Leadership & Operational Oversight

  • Support the Service Manager with the day-to-day running of both services.
  • Provide effective oversight of staffing, rota planning, budgeting and general service operations.
  • Ensure high standards of service delivery in line with CQC regulations, organisational policies and best practice guidance.
  • Take responsibility for the service in the Manager’s absence, ensuring continuity and safe service running.

Quality, Compliance & Safeguarding

  • Ensure services comply fully with CQC Key Lines of Enquiry and contribute to achieving and maintaining a “Good” or “Outstanding” rating.
  • Lead on audits, quality checks and service reviews to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Support robust safeguarding practices, including reporting, documentation and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records such as support plans, risk assessments, incident reports and staff files.

Person-Centred Support & Client Empowerment

  • Promote a culture where individuals are empowered to make choices, develop independence and live fulfilling lives.
  • Oversee and review person-centred support plans, ensuring they reflect individuals’ goals, needs and aspirations.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary working with social workers, families, healthcare providers and community services.
  • Ensure risk management approaches are balanced, enabling independence while promoting safety.

Staff Leadership, Development & Culture

  • Lead, mentor and supervise a diverse staff team, promoting a positive, supportive and accountable culture.
  • Conduct supervisions, appraisals, team meetings and reflective practice sessions.
  • Support staff development through training, coaching and on-shift guidance.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding and retention of high-quality staff.

Communication & Professional Relationships

  • Build effective working relationships with families, advocates, external agencies and professionals.
  • Represent the services in meetings, reviews and local partnership forums.
  • Model high professional standards in all communication, safeguarding and decision-making.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities in residential or supported living settings.
  • Previous experience supervising or leading staff.
  • Strong understanding of person-centred care, empowerment and outcome-focused support.
  • Knowledge of CQC regulations, Key Lines of Enquiry, safeguarding frameworks, MCA and DoLS.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible approach with resilience and the ability to handle competing priorities.

Desirable Experience & Skills

  • Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support approaches.
  • Experience completing audits, care planning or service-level quality improvement.
  • Level 3 Health & Social Care qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
  • Experience managing rotas, budgets or service-level reporting.

Person Specification

  • Experience in like-for-like service.

Qualifications

  • Willing to complete an NVQ.
