Due to the expansion of the service we are looking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist to work in our Medium Secure Service.
You can achieve more at St Andrew’s Healthcare. You will join a medically led organisation which has 8 Psychiatry Directors as part of our Executive Leadership team. This along with 30 other Consultant Psychiatrists based in Northampton will give you the support you need to succeed and enjoy your role whilst also having the opportunities to progress for the future.
For newly qualified Consultants we provide mentoring where you will receive the support of an experienced Consultant colleague to help you through the transition to Consultant Psychiatrist.
The Northampton site also has other services such as Low Secure, PICU, Learning Disability, Autism, Neuropsychiatry, Forensics, and CAMHS as well as our academic and research centre providing opportunities to broaden and develop your skills. It also has facilities such as a café, garden centre, charity shop, woodwork & ceramics workshop all staffed by patients and service users along with other facilities such as gyms and swimming pools for patients and staff to use and all based in over 150 acres of beautiful woodland grounds.
Northamptonshire is also a great place to live due to having good schools, very reasonable house prices and a good mix of facilities within the town as well as villages and countryside. Based in the midlands you have great access to the M1 and M6 and will be based under an hour’s drive/train from London and Birmingham.

The Service
Working within our Medium Secure Service, you will be the Responsible Clinician in our specialist medium service. This is a male medium secure ward that will provide care and treatment for working age males with mental illnesses. This is a new ward that will form part of an established and successful medium secure male service. You will work closely with the other male wards and clinical teams to ensure the pathways between the wards/services are maximised and meet patients’ needs as they progress through treatment and recovery.
The Role
You will lead a multi-disciplinary team and oversee the management of patients with often complex needs. You will be able to promote innovation and improvement of services, with scope to develop your specialist interests and grow your remit and responsibilities. We will actively encourage you to be a leader nationally in mental health and influence the future direction of services. We are looking for an individual who wants a role where they have the autonomy to make decisions that will help improve patient care and outcomes. Someone who wants to join an organisation and be a leader of a team who also shares this passion.
The Ward Hawkins
We are looking for a consultant forensic psychiatrist to develop a new service on Hawkins Ward. This service will be a new 15 bed male medium secure ward for the assessment and treatment of working age males with mental disorders including mental illness and personality disorder. There will be a full MDT including psychologist, assistant psychologist, occupational therapist, technical instructor, social work input, and a junior doctor. Hawkins Ward will join our pre-existing male medium secure wards to expand capacity, and will work closely with the other wards.

We are extremely proud to empower the careers of our medical professionals, and our Executive Medical Director and all of our Clinical Directors have grown and developed into their current roles within the Charity. We also support a number of our Consultant Psychiatrists through an Executive MBA programme at some of the most prestigious business schools in the country. There are also opportunities to attend our regular internal CPD events and for you to develop a medico-legal out-patient practice as part of the St Andrew's Consultancy Service.
The Person
The successful candidate will lead a full MDT and help shape services further through strategic decision-making and improvement projects whilst having support from a team of Junior Doctors, administrators, personal assistants and MDT specialists. You will also be able to undertake research projects as part of St Andrew's commitment to innovation and world-class care. Applicants must have MRCPsych or equivalent and hold a CCT in Forensic Psychiatry, Old Age Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry.
