Location: Birmingham – Salary: £24,853 per annum – Hours: Full time, 37.5 per week

St Andrew’s is a mental health charity dedicated to inspiring hope for people living with complex mental health needs. Our Birmingham site is a 125‑bed adult mental healthcare facility, comprised of eight units covering medium and low security for both men and women, located in Stirchley, a vibrant area in South Birmingham, easily accessible by road networks and public transport.

This role is vital in maintaining a safe and secure environment while supporting patients, staff, and visitors. As a key point of contact between security services and clinical teams, you will escort visitors and contractors around the site, including wards, and manage situations with patience and respect, ensuring a coordinated approach to safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a visible security presence across the site
  • Monitor and respond to incidents, ensuring safety procedures are followed
  • Support staff in managing challenging situations, using de‑escalation where appropriate
  • Communicate clearly with patients, staff, and visitors
  • Conduct regular patrols and security checks
  • Escort visitors and contractors around the site, including wards
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety and security policies
Requirements
  • Previous experience in security, healthcare or a related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Good understanding of safety, confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Respectful, patient, non‑judgemental and empathic approach when working in a mental health environment
