St Andrew’s is a mental health charity dedicated to inspiring hope for people living with complex mental health needs. Our Birmingham site is a 125‑bed adult mental healthcare facility, comprised of eight units covering medium and low security for both men and women, located in Stirchley, a vibrant area in South Birmingham, easily accessible by road networks and public transport.
This role is vital in maintaining a safe and secure environment while supporting patients, staff, and visitors. As a key point of contact between security services and clinical teams, you will escort visitors and contractors around the site, including wards, and manage situations with patience and respect, ensuring a coordinated approach to safety.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain a visible security presence across the site
- Monitor and respond to incidents, ensuring safety procedures are followed
- Support staff in managing challenging situations, using de‑escalation where appropriate
- Communicate clearly with patients, staff, and visitors
- Conduct regular patrols and security checks
- Escort visitors and contractors around the site, including wards
- Ensure compliance with health and safety and security policies
- Previous experience in security, healthcare or a related field
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Good understanding of safety, confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Respectful, patient, non‑judgemental and empathic approach when working in a mental health environment
