The National Probations Service (NPS) have partnered with St Andrew's Healthcare to deliver Community Sentence treatment requirements as part of a Mental Health Treatment Requirement initiative. This is a unique opportunity to work as an Assistant Psychologist embedded in probation offices under the guidance and supervision of qualified psychologists from St Andrew's Healthcare.

Within this role you will support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the Criminal Justice System (CJS); providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with the psychologist and within the overall framework MHTRs, and St Andrew’s policies and procedures.

Due to the autonomy of the role, it is desirable that applicants have some experience working as an Assistant Psychologist. Applicants should have a relevant master’s degree in psychology / minimum of an upper second-class honour’s degree or relevant work experience and be eligible for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society.

The role will be located across the county of Essex but is primarily delivered out of Probation Offices across Chelmsford, Colchester, or Harlow, offering face to face interventions, though some remote sessions will be offered virtually to meet the needs and preference of clients. Travel outside of Essex is reimbursed separately and is typically required for training. A Driving License will be required.

You will facilitate effective communication within the NPS and other agencies that may include primary care services, specialist mental health services, social care and third sector services to ensure continuity of care across all services.

Please note we are unable to offer Home Office Visa Sponsorship for the position of Assistant Psychologist.
