Job Overview
The Activity Manager role is residential and includes all meals and accommodation. You will promote, organise and run daytime and evening activities, liaise with Group Leaders, assist the Welfare Coordinator, and manage a team of Activity Leaders. Working a six‑day week with one full day off, you will also handle administrative duties and support the Centre Manager.
Other Important Information
- Work may exceed 48 hours per week; evening and weekend work required.
- All staff accrue pro‑rated paid holiday during employment.
- Holiday pay in lieu of untaken holiday paid at contract end.
- Pay processed on specified dates each month.
- Company t‑shirts, lanyards, and ID badges provided and must be worn on duty.
- No overtime payment unless expressly agreed.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Welfare
- Read and understand staff handbook and welfare policies.
- Ensure cultural, religious and dietary needs are met.
- Assist with lights‑out duties and supervise staff in pastoral care.
- Support students in adjusting to life in the UK and understanding safety rules.
- Assist with airport transfers and student arrivals/departures.
- Responsible for health and safety, fire warden duties, and emergency procedures.
- Provide information on fire, health and safety and medical emergencies.
- Maintain health‑safety policies and procedures.
- On call 7 am–1 am for health and safety issues; not expected 11 pm–7 am.
Management Of The Activity Programme
- Assist the Centre Manager with staff induction and training of Activity Leaders.
- Prepare for activity sessions, ensuring equipment, safety and instructions are ready.
- Provide Group Leaders with weekly programmes.
- Rota staff effectively based on strengths and experience.
- Inform staff of weekly work schedule at least 3 days in advance.
- Track Activity Leaders’ hours and report to Managing Director.
- Ensure activities comply with British Council and UK guidelines.
- Brief staff on procedures and risk assessments.
- Promote events and manage student sign‑ups and attendance.
- Maintain accurate attendance registers and report missing students.
- Drive high student and staff participation through motivation and supervision.
- Actively participate in activity sessions with students.
- Escort groups on excursions, ensuring safety and information provision.
- Deliver a high‑quality activity programme.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels with Centre Manager.
- Manage activity materials stock and ensure return of items.
- Confirm facilities and booking details with staff and external suppliers.
- Represent St Andrew's College Language Schools positively in all interactions.
Other Duties
- Administrative duties assigned by Managing Director, including airport transfers, petty cash and assistance to Centre Manager.
- Deputise for the Centre Manager when required.
- Close the centre, return equipment, and submit final report within five days.
- Supervise breakfast, lunch and dinner times as required.
- Keep student notice boards up to date.
- Perform additional duties as required.

To work with St Andrew's College Language Schools you must provide a Disclosure check (PVG from Disclosure Scotland or Enhanced DBS in England) dated within three months of employment start. The check costs £18–£67 and will be deducted from your salary. The company reserves rights to deduct the cost early and to carry out PVG checks if no suitable disclosure is provided.
