Skills and Experience Required – Inclusion Room Manager

  • Experience working with young people in a secondary school, educational, pastoral, or behaviour support setting.
  • Proven ability to manage challenging behaviour and support students to make positive choices.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies, restorative approaches, and student engagement techniques.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and attendance procedures.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, and other additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents/carers, and external agencies.
  • Ability to remain calm, resilient, and professional in challenging situations.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, including maintaining accurate records, behaviour logs, and intervention plans.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a pastoral team and collaborate with teaching staff and senior leaders.
  • Confidence in supervising students independently and supporting their reintegration into lessons.
  • Good IT skills and experience using school management information systems.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in an Inclusion Room, Isolation Room, Behaviour Support, Pastoral Support, or Student Welfare role within a secondary school.
  • Relevant qualification in education, youth work, behaviour support, counselling, safeguarding, or a related field.
  • Training in restorative practice, de-escalation techniques, mental health awareness, or safeguarding.
  • Experience analysing behaviour and attendance data to inform interventions.
