Purpose of the Role
To assist the Premises Manager in maintaining the school site, buildings, and grounds to a high standard, ensuring a safe, secure, and well‑maintained environment that supports high‑quality teaching and learning. The postholder will also play a key role in supporting school events, lettings, and compliance with health and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Premises Manager in the daily operation and maintenance of the school site.
- Carry out routine repairs, maintenance, and improvement work across the premises.
- Assist with the supervision of cleaning staff, contractors, and site access.
- Support with statutory testing and record keeping (e.g., fire safety checks, water testing, emergency lighting).
- Open and close the premises, ensuring the security of buildings and grounds.
- Set up and clear away furniture and equipment for school events, assemblies, exams, and lettings.
- Monitor the condition of the site and report repairs or hazards promptly.
- Ensure site areas are clean, safe, and compliant with health and safety legislation.
- Support emergency procedures, including fire drills and incident response.
- Use ICT systems to log maintenance requests, record checks, and communicate with staff.
- Deputise for the Premises Manager during periods of absence.
Person Specification
- Previous experience in site, caretaking, or maintenance work (school experience desirable).
- Knowledge of basic maintenance trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrics, painting).
- Good understanding of health and safety (training will be provided).
- Computer‑literate, with the ability to complete online logs and compliance records.
- Flexible approach to working hours and school events.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with the Senior Leadership Team, School Business Manager, and parents.
- Reliable, proactive, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
