St. Aidan's CE High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to serve as a Reading Intervention Specialist, supporting students in developing literacy skills and reaching their full potential. The postholder works under the overall direction of the Headteacher and day‑to‑day leadership of the SENDCo, contributing to raising school-wide reading standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and monitor targeted reading intervention sessions, both one‑to‑one and with small groups, focusing on phonics, fluency and comprehension and tailoring each session to the student's needs.
  • Screen and evaluate student progress, using the information to inform future planning and optimise outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with teaching staff, families and other professionals.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with students, supporting their confidence and engagement in learning.
  • Contribute to a safe, supportive and inclusive environment, ensuring safeguarding and student wellbeing remain a priority.
  • Collaborate with a broader team, including leading and supporting non‑teaching staff where appropriate, and contribute positively to the school's ethos and community.
