About the position
We are seeking an experienced and driven Engineering Manager to lead our Mechanical & Electrical Installation Teams and build a high-performing Service Department. As a key leader, you’ll be responsible for driving the growth of our service and after-sales functions while ensuring smooth and efficient operations for all project installations.

- Manage our Mechanical & Electrical Installation teams. Effectively plan and align resources to ensure successful project execution. Ensure that the correct resources are allocated to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Handle prioritisation, resource deployment, and work closely with the business owner and key team members to secure approval for necessary resources.
- Set up and grow a new Service and After-Sales department: Drive the creation and growth of the service department from the ground up. Develop and implement service contracts and agreements for clients to ensure that customer requirements are met and services are delivered to the highest standards while ensuring the longevity of our client’s equipment is optimised cost-effectively.
- Work independently, take ownership of tasks, and be a key decision-maker who identifies gaps, gathers information, and drives solutions.
- Monitor the performance of the service team and provide regular feedback and coaching to team members across service and installations; ensuring the teams have the necessary skills and resources to deliver high-quality services.
- Manage customer relationships and ensure that customer requirements are met and handle communication from negotiating with major clients through to managing individual team member performance, with the ability to make tough calls.
- Maintain our strong Health & Safety culture, communicate effectively across all levels of the business, and engage with everyone from apprentice welders to senior management.
Skills and experience required
- Strong people and team management: A strong manager with experience hiring, training, and leading teams. Comfortable managing both commercial and technical aspects of operations.
- Engineering experience with a background in a growing engineering or manufacturing business, preferably with experience in setting up service departments. You should have experience working in an SME, having successfully navigated the challenges of scaling teams and operations.
- Experience in manufacturing/ niche engineering: Ideally you will have a background of hands-on practical mechanical and electrical engineering experience.
- Experience in managing a team and delivering high-quality services using strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and coach team members to ensure the teams meet key deliverables and time frames.
- Ideally you will have demonstrable experience in setting up and managing after-sales or aftercare departments, with a focus on service revenue growth.
- The ability to work with minimal supervision and seek guidance from senior leadership when necessary, proactively seeking information and solving problems.
- Someone who can handle the ups and downs of a growing business, making tough calls when necessary and navigating a fast-paced environment.
- A full UK driving licence with the ability to travel and spend periods away from home on sites across the UK initially and Europe where required, to meet with customers, provide service proposals, discuss future requirements and assist with planning works for upcoming visits by the service engineers.
