SSQ Legal Search is partnering with a leading international banking group on a Legal Counsel hire for its London branch. The group is one of the largest financial institutions in its home region. It has a global network of branches, subsidiaries and representative offices.
The London branch focuses on Corporate and Institutional Banking, Private Banking, Wealth Management and Treasury. The Legal team advises the branch across all business lines. It also supports Head Office on English law matters.
Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, you will join a small and collaborative in-house team. This is a transaction-focused role with broad exposure to the wider business.
The role
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating bilateral facility and security documentation for Private Banking transactions. This includes real estate finance, Lombard lending and guarantees.
- Preparing facility letters, amendments, debentures, legal charges, share charges and guarantees.
- Ensuring documentation reflects credit approvals and protects the bank’s security position.
- Managing the external law firm panel, including instructions, quotes and invoices.
- Advising stakeholders across Private Banking, Wealth Management, Credit, Treasury, Trade Finance, Operations, Compliance and HR.
- Analysing new legislation and drafting policies and procedures.
- Identifying legal risks and control gaps and supporting audit readiness.
- Delivering legal training and updates to business colleagues.
Requirements
- Qualified solicitor with 3+ years’ PQE.
- Banking, finance, real estate finance or private banking experience.
- Strong knowledge of facility and security documentation, conditions precedent and loan lifecycle amendments.
