SSQ is supporting a large consumer-facing business in searching for an Interim Legal Counsel. The inâhouse legal function delivers pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice aligned with wider business objectives. The team works closely with stakeholders across multiple functions and plays an integral role in supporting day-to-day operations and strategic projects.
The roleThis role sits within the inâhouse legal team and provides commercial legal support to the UK and Ireland business. The successful candidate will deliver timely, professional, and costâeffective legal advice across a broad range of commercial matters.
Responsibilities
Leading on the review, drafting, and negotiation of lowerâcomplexity commercial contracts and projects
Taking ownership of matters from a legal perspective, including advising on structure, legal risk, and escalation of key issues
Managing internal approval processes
Supporting more senior lawyers on higherâvalue or more complex contracts and projects
Advising independently on a range of commercial matters
Providing input on related areas of law such as competition, intellectual property, and data protection
Supporting dispute resolution and settlement discussions in collaboration with senior team members
Advising on regulatory issues relevant to the business
Contributing to process improvement initiatives within the legal team
Monitoring legal and regulatory developments and advising on best practice
Working closely with crossâfunctional project teams
Liaising with external counsel and advisers as required
Building strong working relationships with stakeholders across commercial, procurement, and finance teams
Supporting administrative processes including supplier onboarding and invoice settlement
Candidate profile
Qualified commercial and/or corporate lawyer with a solid breadth of experience
Comfortable managing multiple projects and competing priorities
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Experience gained inâhouse and/or within a large private practice environment
Commercially minded and solutionsâfocused
Working pattern & culture
The role offers a largely remote working pattern, with limited office attendance required. The legal team operates in a collaborative, nonâhierarchical structure, with work allocated based on capacity and expertise.
