Our client, a leading law firm, is seeking a talented Associate or Senior Associate to join its Financial Services advisory team on a 12-month maternity cover contract. This is an opportunity to work with a highly regarded practice advising on consumer finance, e-money, payments, and retail financial services matters. The role will involve working closely with a Partner and a team of specialists advising a diverse client base, including fintech startups, scale-ups, and established financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising clients on financial services regulatory matters, including the regulatory perimeter, product structuring, and compliance with the FCA / PRA regulatory framework.
  • Drafting and reviewing customer-facing terms and conditions.
  • Providing strategic regulatory advice to payment and e-money firms, consumer credit firms, banks, and fintech companies.
  • Supporting clients on compliance with key legislation such as the Financial Services and Markets Act, the Regulated Activities Order, Payment Services / E-Money Regulations, and consumer finance regimes (e.g., the Consumer Credit Act, CONC, or MCOB).
  • Collaborating with colleagues in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment to deliver high-quality client service.

Key Requirements

  • 5-10 years' PQE gained in a leading law firm or in-house financial services environment.
  • Strong experience advising on financial regulatory matters, particularly in the payments, e-money, and consumer finance sectors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks, including the FCA / PRA Handbook.
  • Ability to provide commercially focused advice to a diverse client base, from early-stage startups to high-growth fintech firms and established financial institutions.
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills, with a proactive and collaborative approach to client work.
