The primary responsibility is to ensure that business cases are comprehensive, strategically aligned with organisational objectives, and structured to deliver the expected financial returns. This involves rigorous analysis to confirm the robustness of each proposal. This position reports directly to the Senior Finance Manager - Capital / Investments. What you’ll be doing:
- Provide comprehensive financial support to Business Development Directors across the UK, Ireland, and Netherlands.
- Develop, analyse, and review business cases, including P&Ls and cashflow models, ensuring all assumptions are clearly articulated to stakeholders.
- Challenge and validate business case assumptions with key stakeholders to ensure robustness and accuracy.
- Prepare post investment reviews to assess performance against expectations.
- Participate in client meetings as required, providing financial insight and challenge.
- Attend UK and Group Investment Committees, presenting and reviewing investment proposals.
- Produce the monthly New Business Review Pack for discussion with the UK CEO and CFO.
- Identify and explain material variances versus forecast, highlighting key risks and opportunities.
- Maintain and update reporting templates in Excel and PowerPoint to align with Group reporting standards.
- Review all property and business development presentations to ensure alignment with current Group requirements.
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting process for business development related movements.
- Act as the central point of contact for all Business Development forecasting queries.
- Prepare supplementary reporting on gains and losses movements.
- Coordinate with the PMO on the Property Governance System to ensure capital and financial metrics align with the latest forecast.
- Provide ad-hoc support to the Senior Finance Manager as required.
Key Measurables
- Timely and accurate delivery of Business Cases to UK and Group stakeholders.
- Clear commercial evaluation of business cases, including well supported recommendations that influence decision making.
- Successful completion and submission of Business Gains and Losses Budget, Quarterly Forecasts (QF), and Medium Term Plan (MTP) P&L.
To be successful in this role you will need:
Essential
- Qualified accountant with 3+ years’ post-qualification experience supporting business operations and driving financial performance.
- Strong commercial acumen, ideally gained within a multi-site retail or similarly fast-paced, operationally complex environment.
- Highly systems-literate, with the ability to analyse, interpret and manipulate large data sets to generate meaningful insight.
- Proven ability to identify, recommend and implement improvements to financial and business processes, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and speed of decision-making.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proactive, solutions-focused, "can-do" mindset.
- Confident in constructively challenging assumptions and partnering with cross-functional teams to influence outcomes.
- Clear and concise communicator, able to translate financial information for both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong experience in investment appraisal, scenario modelling, and commercial evaluation.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to streamline models, automate where possible, and enhance reporting outputs.
Desirable
- Experience using MS OLAP tools such as Essbase, TM1, or Office Plus.
- Prior involvement in transforming investment models, governance frameworks, or business processes to improve consistency, control, and quality of decision-making.
