Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations - Glasgow, Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen.

Salary: c£60,000 DOE + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available.

The role: SSEN Transmission have an exciting opportunity for a Substation Project Engineer to join our multi-disciplined Project Engineering team to help develop and deliver innovative solutions to high voltage electrical substation projects, helping to unlock the renewable generation potential in the North of Scotland and contributing towards the UK's Net-Zero targets.

You will:

  • Create outline scope, site location plans, primary plant layouts and Single Line Diagrams for new build and asset replacement type projects, operating up to 400kV.
  • Review contractor/consultants detailed designs and witness Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Implement safety by design principles to ensure that engineering and safety risks are adequately controlled.
  • Support site and operational teams to ensure the quality of installations, with minimal risk to Network security.
  • Evaluate tenders and procure and manage specialist services from consultants.

You have:

  • Strong technical knowledge of substation design, construction, and commissioning within the Transmission sector, with understanding of project governance and engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with key legislation affecting substation projects, including Construction Design Management (CDM) & Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulation (ESQCR), and their impact on safety and compliance.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset with the confidence to address critical issues and drive resolution within project teams.
  • Effective communication and strong organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities across multiple workstreams.
  • A degree or HND in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience); ideally working towards professional accreditation (e.g. IET).
