Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations – Glasgow, Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen
Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
As part of SSEN Transmissions Offshore Portfolio of works, we have an opportunity for a Substation Project Engineer to join our newly formed Offshore AC Project Engineering team to help drive forward our Island projects and successfully deliver a network for Net Zero. Our Island projects facilitate the connection to our HVDC systems and include state-of the-art AC plant, grid control and stabilisation technology.
You will

  • Create outline scope, site location plans, primary plant/ substation layout and Single Line Diagrams for new build and asset replacement type projects, operating up to 400kV.
  • Review contractor/consultants detailed designs and witnessing Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Implement safety by design principles to ensure that engineering and safety risks are adequately controlled.
  • Support site and operational teams to ensure the quality of installations, with minimal risk to Network security.
  • Evaluate tenders and procure and manage specialist services from consultants.
You have
  • Experience in transmission level substation projects, document review, factory acceptance testing, installation and commissioning ideally up to 400kV including AIS and GIS, and be comfortable to technically assess issues and critically assess a range of technical solutions.
  • An understanding of the legislation and implications for the Transmission network management for both Assets and Projects, including Construction Design Management & Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations.
  • A problem solving attitude with the strength of character to ensure critical matters are addressed by the project teams.
  • Enthusiasm combined with excellent communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate diligence and prioritise tasks.
  • A degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or relevant technical experience and ideally be a Chartered Engineer or working towards professional accreditation with a relevant institution.
