The role involves supporting a 24/7 real‑time transmission control room, outage planning, system readiness and resilience. You will apply system modelling expertise to develop and enhance control room capabilities for safe network operation in northern Scotland. The position also includes advancing operational modelling tools, shaping technical standards, and supporting major transmission projects including HVDC systems, FACTS devices, and offshore windfarm connections.
Responsibilities:
- Offer expert power system modelling support for control teams, covering real‑time analysis tools and study support for operational and long‑term resilience planning.
- Develop the power system modelling capability of the Transmission control room, including dynamic system studies and EMT modelling capability.
- Provide technical leadership within the team and wider control room and deliver training and mentoring for less experienced colleagues.
- Represent SSEN Transmission in external meetings and on industry workgroups.
- Lead scoping and delivering innovation projects ensuring the business remains at the forefront of system modelling and monitoring developments.
