Lack experience but are still interested? If you have an academic background in power systems or are at an earlier stage in your career in electrical power systems and looking to move into a system planning and investment role, please do apply. We may be able to offer a role at a Trainee level with the opportunity to transition to an Engineer once the necessary experience has been gained. We would welcome applications from postgraduate and PhD students who have completed or are about to complete their studies.

You will:

  • Undertake power system analysis including technical assessments of generator and demand customer connection applications.
  • Prepare technical reports, providing input into commercial reports, business cases and investment need cases.
  • Assess the capability and technical compliance of the transmission network against a range of energy futures and viable operating conditions.
  • Support the development and detailed design of projects through the justification of investment cases and undertaking system studies to underpin these.

You have:

  • Experience in power system analysis, design, and planning—ideally within electricity transmission—and familiarity with tools such as PSSE, PowerFactory, or similar.
  • A solid understanding of electrical theory, the structure of the electricity industry, and UK energy policy.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, structured technical reports and provide concise insights for senior stakeholders.
  • A passion for contributing to the energy transition, with a desire to influence industry frameworks and support the development of a net zero-ready network.
  • A qualification in Engineering, Physics, or another STEM discipline, along with an interest or experience in Python scripting for power system applications.
