Base Location: Flexible Scotland. We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness.

The role involves managing substation assets by understanding their health, performance, and risk to prioritise interventions. A typical day will involve working closely with operational, technical and delivery teams to solve technical problems, manage risk, support operational challenges, deliver value and contribute to the overall operational excellence of the business.
- Assess, understand, and predict the performance, integrity, and condition of substation assets (transformers, switchgear, instrument transformers, etc) across the transmission network through detailed technical analysis.
- Make recommendations for necessary interventions by authoring accurate asset condition reports.
- Evaluate and design interim mitigations and permanent interventions for assets with substandard condition or performance, ensuring alignment with legislative and regulatory requirements and supporting our energy security objectives.
- Create and prioritise replacement and renewal plans for substation assets to inform business planning.
- Provide specialist substation assets engineering support and expertise across a portfolio of projects including investments in the existing network and network growth.
- Review and advise on enquiries concerning substation assets including identifying potential synergies, conflicts or risks.
- Undertake regulatory and benchmarking reporting specific to substation assets.
- Work collaboratively with fellow Asset Engineers to share expertise from your own asset class and broaden your understanding of others.
- Engage proactively with a wide range of stakeholders to understand their needs, identify key information sources, and deliver timely engineering data and assessments.
You have:
- An engineering qualification at degree level, or equivalent High Voltage (HV) networks operational experience.
- Experience in asset integrity assessments, management of risk and performance, design, construction or operation and maintenance of transmission voltage substation assets.
- Working knowledge of appropriate British and International Standards, Codes of Practice and specifications relevant to HV Substation Assets.
- A positive and flexible attitude, with ability to respond to emergent challenges paired with excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Experience of data management systems such as IBM Maximo would be an advantage.
