Due to the continued growth of SSEN Transmission, we have several exciting opportunities for System Planning and Investment Engineers with interest in technical areas associated with network and strategic planning to join our ever-growing team. We undertake power system planning for the integration of low carbon generation, flexible demand and other technologies onto the transmission system in North Scotland offering a real opportunity to develop your career in power system analysis and planning of modern electricity transmission networks.
If you have a background in power systems or at an earlier stage in your career in electrical power systems and looking to move into a system planning and investment role, please do apply. We may be able to offer a role at a Trainee level with the opportunity to transition to an Engineer once the necessary experience has been gained. We would welcome applications from Post Graduates & PHD students who have completed or are about to complete their studies.
You Will:
- Undertake power system analysis including technical assessments of generator and demand customer connection applications.
- Prepare technical reports, business cases and investment need cases, and provide input into commercial reports.
- Assess the capability and technical compliance of the transmission network against a range of energy futures and viable operating conditions.
- Engage with multi-disciplinary teams throughout the business to aid in the development and delivery of our strategic plans covering a range of energy futures to meet energy system needs for net zero, undertaking system studies to underpin these.
- Have enthusiasm for energy and engineering with a passion for innovative ideas that will help to transform the energy industry.
You Have:
- Experience in power system analysis, design and planning, ideally within electricity transmission.
- Working knowledge of electrical theory and experience in using power system analysis tools such as PSSE, Power Factory or similar.
- Good knowledge of the electricity industry and UK energy policy, including interfaces with generator and demand customers, the regulator, the National Energy System Operator, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, other Transmission Owners and Distribution Network Operators.
- Desire to participate in and influence the changes required to industry frameworks needed to develop a network for net zero.
- Ability to write clear and well-structured technical reports, policies and network requirements and provide focused information for senior management.
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Physics or other STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) courses.
