The Role: We’re looking for an experienced P6 Planning Engineer to support a rapidly expanding programme of complex, high‑value infrastructure projects across the north of Scotland. You’ll play a key role in developing and managing robust project schedules that keep delivery on track and support informed decision making. In this role, you’ll use Primavera P6 to build, maintain, and analyse project plans that ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently, and on time. You’ll work closely with the Project Services Manager, project managers, capital development and delivery teams, and wider stakeholders to provide clear, data‑driven insight that drives performance across the portfolio. This is a great opportunity to shape delivery outcomes on nationally significant projects, while benefiting from hybrid working and strong career development opportunities.
You will:
- Develop and maintain detailed, logic‑driven project schedules across the full lifecycle – from early‑stage design through to construction, commissioning and energisation.
- Partner closely with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, commercial, site delivery and external contractors to create realistic, logic driven and aligned programmes.
- Carry out delay analysis and assess change impacts, ensuring robust compliance with NEC3 planning and reporting requirements.
- Produce clear, insightful reports that highlight progress, risks, opportunities and performance trends for key stakeholders and senior leaders.
- Review, interrogate and challenge contractor schedules to ensure quality, logic integrity and contractual alignment on large, complex infrastructure projects.
You have:
- Demonstrable experience as a Planning Engineer using Primavera P6 on major construction or infrastructure projects.
- Strong practical understanding of NEC3 planning requirements, including assessing delay impacts, change events and contractor claims.
- The ability to use Primavera P6 to build and manage complex, logic‑linked construction programmes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, enabling strong relationships with internal teams and external delivery partners.
- A proactive, solution‑focused approach, solid Microsoft 365 skills and a valid driving licence for travel to SSE offices and project sites (with occasional overnight stays).
