Base Location: For this role, successful applicants must be based from one of our Scottish locations and spend 50% of your working week in the office – Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow, Perth.

The role
As part of our Offshore Development and Delivery team, we are looking for a strategic and delivery-focused Deputy Project Director to play a key leadership role in delivering some of our most complex and high-value HVDC Interconnector projects. Reporting directly to the Project Director, this is a pivotal position where you will support the development and execution of major projects across their full lifecycle, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with our governance and regulatory frameworks. You will work closely with senior stakeholders across the business and supply chain, helping to shape project strategy, strengthen delivery capability, and drive successful outcomes that support SSEN Transmission’s wider objectives.
Responsibilities
- Assisting the Project Director in the development, refinement and delivery of a programme of projects, or individual projects, at different stages of definition and maturity; specifically the safe and successful delivery of high value and complex HVDC Interconnector projects.
- Development, refinement and execution of the project to meet or exceed the project objectives and economic measures approved at respective SSENT Large Capital Project Governance Framework Gates, and as identified within the Project Development Plan during Development and Refinement phases and the Project Execution Plan during the Execution phase, as delegated by the Project Director.
- The Deputy Project Director is responsible for the development and administration of Ofgem Regulatory submissions, as delegated by the Project Director.
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, including supply chain partners, to positively influence and impact upon the delivery of the Project and wider SSEN Transmission and SSE business objectives.
- The Deputy Project Director supports the Project Director in the design and development of project structures and resources for the safe delivery of projects on time in a consistent manner with effective governance, financial, commercial, quality and risk management disciplines.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in project delivery (preferably in the electricity generation/transmission sectors) with direct responsibility and experience in the management and leadership of large capital projects as a senior or lead project manager.
- Strong and demonstrable experience of preparation, negotiation and execution of NEC3 contracts, especially in a multi contract delivery model environment with individual contract values in excess of £100M.
- In depth knowledge and experience of the HVDC and/or AC industry and delivery, preferably with offshore cable delivery experience.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of project management systems and governance arrangements for development and execution of large capital projects.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of project controls processes and systems.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbally and experience of communicating with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels, preferably including direct experience of Ofgem engagement.
