The role
At SSEN Transmission, we’re at the forefront of building a cleaner, more secure energy system for the future. As a Development Project Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and manage some of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects, delivering HVDC and AC substation, overhead line, and cable through the feasibility, option development and consent submission stages of projects ranging in value from £10m to £1bn. We have opportunities across both our onshore and offshore development teams, giving you the chance to contribute to projects that are shaping the UK’s energy future.
Whether you join us as a Development Project Manager or as an Assistant Development Project Manager, you’ll be supported to grow your skills and experience, with a clear pathway to progress into leading roles as you develop. If you already have strong project management experience, you’ll take the lead on key projects. If you’re earlier in your journey, or bringing relevant expertise from another industry, you’ll step into an Assistant role with the opportunity to transition into a Development Project Manager role once you’ve gained the necessary experience.
You will
- Bring together and guide the right team to progress each project up to construction, including feasibility assessments, option development, initial designs, Planning Applications and key documentation.
- Oversee project feasibility, route and site selection, technology choices, surveys and studies, initial design works, land rights and wayleaves, Planning Applications, regulatory submissions and project Gate documentation.
- Oversee project programmes, costs, resource schedules and plans, ensuring delivery in line with governance requirements.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with contractors, stakeholders and communities, supporting the collaborative and sustainable delivery of your projects.
- Champion high standards of safety, health and environmental performance.
You have
- An understanding of project development through the optioneering and initial design phases, with the ability to shape effective project solutions, deliver to timescales and, as your experience grows, manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams, or the motivation to develop these skills, to help achieve project outputs that inform planning applications, tenders and design works.
- A background in developing, managing and reporting on project budgets (experience with significant budgets of £10m and above is an advantage, but not essential at the Assistant level).
- An understanding of relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, such as Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, or a willingness to build this knowledge.
- Awareness of the NEC3 Suite of Contracts, particularly the Engineering and Construction and Professional Services Contracts.
