Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations - Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen.

Salary: £35,200 - £52,800 + car/car allowance + performance related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role

SSEN are looking for a Nature Officer to support the development and implementation of habitat enhancement projects to support our over-arching Transmission Biodiversity Net Gain delivery, and irreplaceable habitats commitments. Travel to our project sites across Scotland will be expected.

You will

  • Work with other members of the Consents & Environment Team and external stakeholders to ensure that the projects deliver against business and regulatory targets relating to Biodiversity Net Gain, irreplaceable habitats and nature-based solutions.
  • Provide quality assurance and control for technical biodiversity net gain documentation to aid with planning consent documentation, and delivery of strategic targets.
  • Design, establish and deliver new processes and ways of working to secure irreplaceable habitat and strategic biodiversity enhancement sites in such a way as to meet business and regulatory targets (from optioneering through to Operations).
  • Offer technical input, guidance and support to all business units on habitat enhancement project requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise on project site visits to provide initial habitat assessments to advise on suitability of projects for Biodiversity Net Gain and irreplaceable habitat delivery.

You have

  • Knowledge of habitat classification (particularly UKHab), surveys and assessment and ecological management of the natural environment for conservation, restoration, protection and its enhancement for habitats and species.
  • Knowledge of biodiversity metric approaches for assessing biodiversity value of sites and emerging policy, best practice and guidance for applying Biodiversity Net Gain reporting experience.
  • Ability to build and foster excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders to engage, influence and negotiate to ensure SSEN is a sector leader in off-site habitat enhancement.
  • Experience of data analysis, quality assurance, and peer reviewing.
  • Experience delivering and monitoring habitat enhancement projects.
