Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office or site – Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness.

Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available.

The role:

  • SSEN Transmission is currently recruiting for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our Project Engineering team and support our growing portfolio of land and subsea HV cable projects.
  • You'll be assisting in the development and delivery of all the onshore and offshore geotechnical activity associated with design and installation of critical national infrastructure.
  • You'll play a key part in delivering Net Zero.
  • You will collaborate across disciplines to provide geotechnical insight on HVDC projects, including converter stations, landfalls, and cable routes (onshore and offshore).
  • Shape and review technical scopes for geotechnical works, ensuring alignment with project needs and contract requirements.
  • Support early-stage project development, including site selection, ground investigations, and feasibility studies.
  • Champion safe, thoughtful design by managing geotechnical risks and contributing to CDM responsibilities as part of the Principal Designer team.
  • Guide and oversee delivery, reviewing contractor designs, supervising works, and promoting a strong health and safety culture.

You have:

  • A degree in geotechnical engineering or a related discipline, with a strong foundation in ground investigations, earthworks, and foundations.
  • Hands-on experience across the full EPC lifecycle, supporting both onshore and offshore infrastructure projects, especially cable-related ground investigations.
  • Confidence in reviewing technical deliverables, including interpretive reports, foundation designs, and drilling strategies.
  • A solid grasp of industry standards and regulations, including ECC contracts and CDM duties, particularly in supervisory and design roles.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with a proactive approach to managing time and collaborating across teams.
