Base Location
Banniskirk Hub in Caithness. You will be required on site 5 days per week, as well as attending regular meetings at the Hub office in Thurso, as required.
Salary
£42,600 – £64,000 depending on experience + car / cash allowance + performance-related bonus + range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role
SSEN Transmission has an opportunity for a Site Construction Manager experienced in the principles of construction and the commissioning of major transmission overhead line works, substations, and/or underground cables. The Site Construction Manager will be crucial in managing the development and construction of new 400kV substation in Banniskirk, Caithness, ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, environmental and quality standards. This is a site-based role, with the expectation to be based on the site 5 days per week or at the site locations as required.
There are training opportunities available for suitable candidates transferring from other industries. The role would be suitable for experienced site supervisors looking for their next career advancement.
You will
- Measure completed works against set KPIs to support assessment of payment applications and the management of NEC Contracts (or similar). You will ensure site activities comply with planning consents and SHE legislation and ensure that the Contractor is providing sufficiently detailed weekly reporting as part of the project deliverables.
- Monitor and record key deliverables including earthworks, civils construction, overhead line construction and commissioning activities.
- Ensure the project is executed in accordance with relevant requirements, particularly statutory and legal obligations, health & safety, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, quality & technical compliance (such as ITPs), internal & external stakeholder management.
- Represent the SSEN Transmission business on-site, being the key point of contact for the project, interacting proactively with the appointed contractor(s) and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the works are delivered to the project programme, with appropriate resource levels and in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
- Develop effective positive relationships with contractors, suppliers and the community, acting as a leader on site and champion for an effective and collaborative safety culture.
You have
- Strong engineering and construction knowledge including safety and the application of CDM 2015 Regulations.
- Suitable qualifications in engineering or construction management and have experience of site management of similarly complex works in construction/ utilities/ electrical installation.
- Experience of working with NEC contracts or equivalent, including previous experience managing defects, quality monitoring through inspection and test plans.
- Good written and oral communication skills, including the capability of representing the project internally and externally where required. Familiarity with computer systems and ideally, with the ability to use common software such as Microsoft Office packages.
- Effective leadership in challenging environments and ability to cope with conflicting demands. A good understanding of project planning and tracking progress against agreed plans. The ability to maintain comprehensive project documentation including progress reports and site diaries.
The role requires a full current driving licence due to the requirement to travel to and be on site.
