This is a high‐profile role within a growing offshore portfolio, offering the opportunity to work on nationally significant infrastructure and shape the future of the transmission network.
Reporting to the Lead Project Manager, the role is accountable for the safe, timely and efficient delivery of a major civil engineering package supporting mainland electrical infrastructure, with a primary focus on underground cabling and associated enabling works. The Senior Project Manager will lead delivery from early design and consents through procurement, construction, testing and handover, working collaboratively across internal functions and with external partners to ensure alignment with SSEN governance, safety expectations and quality standards. The scale and growth of the Offshore Portfolio also provides strong opportunities for future career progression within Transmission.
You will:
- Be accountable for the safety, health and wellbeing of all personnel and for environmental performance across the package, ensuring full compliance with SSEN Safety Management Systems, behavioural charters, CDM Regulations and Large Capital Project (LCP) governance.
- Lead the planning, monitoring and control of the package in line with approved Project Execution Plans and commercial strategies, ensuring delivery to time, cost and quality targets, including effective contract and supplier management.
- Lead regulatory submissions to secure project funding and maintain accountability for delivery within agreed scope and financial parameters, including robust reporting and assurance throughout execution.
- Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships, leading coordination with consents, land, local authorities, contractors and affected stakeholders to ensure compliance with planning conditions, permits, wayleaves, traffic management and environmental controls.
- Lead, develop and motivate a multi‐disciplinary team, maintaining oversight of package risks and opportunities, proactively managing delivery challenges and promoting collaboration, continuous improvement and lessons learned across the project.
You have:
- Demonstrable experience delivering projects or work packages safely, on time, to cost and quality standards within highly regulated environments such as Transmission, Utilities, Construction, Oil & Gas or Nuclear.
- Proven people leadership capability with a strong commitment to health, safety and wellbeing, supported by a solid understanding of project management practices and a relevant engineering, construction or project management qualification (or equivalent experience).
- Sound engineering or construction knowledge, including environmental and health & safety legislation (e.g. CDM 2015), alongside contractual management experience (NEC3 preferred) and the ability to plan, forecast and control costs and integrated programmes.
- Experience operating within robust governance and reporting frameworks in regulated settings, including accountability for significant budgets (ideally £30m+), with confidence in identifying, prioritising and managing delivery risks across multiple workstreams.
- An open, inclusive and collaborative approach, with strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across multi‐disciplinary teams and geographically diverse locations.
